I have officially left MySpace

A little while back, I had already shut down my personal MySpace.com account. Most of you already know why. Those that haven't heard the reasons might still use MySpace, hate, and be able to figure out why. The site is trash. I met a few really awesome friends (and models) there, but apart from that, it's just a spam and messy page nightmare.

From a professional standpoint - I had a RyanWelshPhotography.com account on there - it was useless. I only received a few inquiries to that account about my work, and some of those people were, I am sad to say, not the sort of people I would care to work with. I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just saying, it's MySpace. "Interesting" people happen.

Since I started this page to promote my work a short time ago, the usefulness has already illustrated itself. I spent $25 on five days of targeted Facebook advertising and my traffic shot through the roof! And I got a few emails from folks interested in modeling. I can not ask for a lot more than that.

Shameless suckup aside, however: I want to take a quick second to acknowledge those friends and acquaintances of mine on Facebook who stepped up and became a fan to help establish my Facebook presence. It was a bigger gesture than I simple click. So thank you. All of you. :-)

Anyways, the point is, if you were friended to RWP.com on MySpace before and are wondering where it went, it self-destructed. Facebook is my new online presence. Until something better comes along!

Photos appearing on CNET...somewhere

So I got a call from a gentleman at CNET. Apparently he saw this picture featured on a website called Pingdom; here's the URL where he found me referenced. Anyways, he really liked the shot and wants to post it to a blog he works on. He said something about it being about geek graffiti. Works for me!

Only thing I found super amusing about this is that, as a photographer, I expect people to react to my more professional works, taken on real cameras. But the press I get is sometimes on the craptacular pictures taken from a cameraphone. Go figure.

As a closing side-note: I'm just really happy that Pingdom, having grabbed my all-rights-reserved picture for their site, did in fact credit the photo back to its respective Flickr page. I can't argue with that, considering the way people aggregate witty and humor media on the internet these days. I'll be writing them a nice email tomorrow. That's how good blog etiquette is conducted!

Welcome, new visitors!

So, the other day I decided to try some marketing on Facebook. A few things came out of it:

First, I created a page for Ryan Welsh Photography on Facebook. If you're a Facebooker, you should look it up: It's one of those things that you can "become a fan of". If you've seen from your home news feed your friends becoming fans of things like Barack Obama, Dane Cook, House M.D. - hell, I even saw people become a fan of cheese - it's like that. I figured out how to create such pages and thought it would be a nice way to get a social networking presence for my work. So if you like what you see, please, become a fan of Ryan Welsh Photography on Facebook! It'll be a great way for you to stay up to date with what's new is RWP Land, if you're a even a fairly frequent Facebook user.

Second, since I created that page, I decided to try some of Facebook's target advertising. So if you're here because you saw my ad running on Facebook and clicked it, thanks, butt-head: you just cost me $0.41 - $0.71.

I'm totally kidding.

I'm really thrilled that you did; it's why I bought the ads! It tells me I managed to catch your attention somehow. Thank you for showing interest, and I really hope you like what you see.

Feel free to drop me a line, and show your support on Facebook for Ryan Welsh Photography on Facebook!
